Pilgrims From The East Continue To Trek To Namugongo In Big Numbers

The Eastern Cluster of 10 Anglican Dioceses from the Eastern region is in charge of the preparations and will lead the Martyrs Day celebration at the Anglican Site in Namugongo.

And expectedly, there is a lot of excitement from the Christians of the 10 Dioceses, many of who are trekking from the different dioceses to Namugongo for the pilgrimage.

The COU Family TV team is moving with the pilgrims and will give regular updates on their progress as Martyrs Day 3rd June draws closer.

Scores of pilgrims from some of the Archdeaconries of Both Bukedi and Busoga dioceses embarked on their journey at 6:00 am on 29th May 2023. They spent the night at St. James COU in Jinja City after walking the whole day.

Early morning today, these pilgrims embarked on the journey from St. James COU through Jinja City. In the spirit of ecumenism, the Anglican pilgrims teamed up with their Catholic counterparts and split themselves into smaller clusters as they crossed the Nile Bridge. However, before they crossed the bridge, the COU Family TV team was able to speak to them while in Mbiko to tell us about their experience thus far.

Another team of pilgrims had moved further ahead up to Kitigoma. Among them is an elderly woman of 60 years while the youngest is eight years old. They explained to our reporter the reasons which prompted them to undertake the pilgrimage.

These teams are moving along with some members of the clergy accompanying them. The pilgrims emphasized the importance of the journey of faith they had undertaken.

The walking pilgrims, numbering about 200 from Eastern Uganda, are scheduled to have their next stop in Mukono town to have refreshments. They are expected to arrive in Namugongo Martyrs Site by mid-morning on 31st May 2023.
