PLE Statistics Over The Years

PLE Statistics Over The Years

An analysis of the number of pupils who have shown up for Primary Leaving Exams in the last five years has shown a general increment in the numbers from 2017 to 2022. The figures include pupils from schools under the free Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme and others outside of it.

In 2022, a total of 832,654 pupils registered for PLE in 14,691 centres across Uganda from both UPE and non-UPE schools. This was an increment of 82,893 pupils from 2020.

UNEB did not provide statistics for 2021 since PLE was not conducted due to the COVID-19 induced lockdown.

For the 2020 exams, a total of 749,761 pupils registered for PLE in 14,300 centres across the country.

In 2019, a total of 695,804 pupils registered for PLE in 13,475 centres across Uganda.

There was a similar rise in 2018 from 2017 whereby 671,923 pupils registered for PLE in 13,072 centres.

In 2017,  a total of 646,190 pupils registered for PLE in 12,751 centres countrywide.

There was also a noticeable consistent rise in the number of UPE and non-UPE candidates registered for PLE in the five year period from 2017 to 2022.
