
President Museveni Commissions An Agricultural Skills Development Facility At Bukalasa
President Yoweri Museveni while commissioning the Bukalasa Agricultural College on Tuesday said the country's biggest challenge is a huge labour market and lack of incomes at the household level not infrastructural development.
He said a lot of households are struggling with income generation and that improving it has been his priority since 1986.
After commissioning the facilities that included the juice processing plant, calf and steer pen, feed mill, zero grazing, piggery and poultry units a biogas, pullet and later barns and library, Museveni urged the people in Luwero to support government programmes.
The First Lady and Minister for Education and Sport re-echoed government’s commitment to empower the training of children in the country to match the job market.
Explaining the skills attained at the college, an undergraduate student at Bukalasa College pursuing a diploma in livestock and business management Rebecca Adyek told COU Family TV asserted the skills she has acquired during her stay at the college.
The government of Uganda received 100M US dollars financing, from the World Bank for the Skills Development Project (SDP) to enhance the capacity of institutions to deliver high quality demand driven programmes, 11 million was used at Bukalasa College to renovated and improve the facilities.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, its government’s priority to improve technical capacity through skills development.
The SD Project aims at creating a scalable model of vocational and technical training linked to the labour market.
Bukalasa College which was started in 1929 is one of the 12 training institutions that benefitted from the World Bank funding for skills development.
The Agricultural tertiary training institution operates under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
