
President Museveni Starts Acholi Wealth Creation Tour
President Yoweri Museveni has begun his two-day mobilization tour on wealth creation in the Acholi sub-region. The tour is under the theme: Securing your Future through Wealth Creation and Shared Prosperity.
The President, who addressed leaders from all the districts of Acholi on Thursday at the Kaunda Grounds in Gulu City, said that the Parish Development Model, a flagship government programme, has clear guidelines which should be strictly followed.
In his address to political and other leaders from across the Acholi sub-region, President Yoweri Museveni said that he came to the region to mobilize the Acholi and other Ugandans to embrace government programmes such as the Parish Development Model to ensure that the people still stuck in the subsistence sector graduate to the money economy.
The President explained that sustainable household income is key to national development and that is why the PDM targets individual homesteads.
President Museveni appealed to the people of Acholi not to be derailed by what he called small issues such as the Apaa land conflict and emphasized that this should never stop development programmes.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja briefed the Acholi regional leaders that the government has earmarked over 1 trillion shillings to improve livelihoods in the marginalized regions, as affirmative action.
A cross-section of Ministers and officials from government agencies made several presentations detailing the interventions with a specific focus on the Acholi sub-region.
Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General told the president that as a party they have endorsed him as their flag bearer for the 2026 elections and requested him to accept and stand.
The Presidential tour is running under the theme "Securing your future through wealth creation and shared prosperity."
Ministers and government technocrats detailed the progress of implementation of govt programmes in the Acholi Sub-region such as PDM, the status of roads, Emyooga, Electricity connections, Acholi war debt compensation claims, the general performance of the NRM and plan for the future.
The President earlier in the day commissioned an industrial hub and visited a number of successful farmers in the Omoro District.
