Prime Minister Nabbanja Urges Farmers To Embrace Commercial Agriculture

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has asked farmers to endeavor to add value to their products so as to get better returns.

The Prime Minister made the remarks on Sunday while presiding over the first smallholder farmer's exhibition at Kasana grounds in Mubende town.

Nabbanja thanked the organizers of the exhibition for complementing government efforts in promoting commercial agriculture in the country.

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja underscored the importance of agricultural exhibitions, saying that they provide a platform for farmers and researchers to interact and share experiences and new technologies.

She said that the Government is involved in several initiatives to ensure that farmers benefit from their sweat by adding value to whatever they produce.

Premier Nabbanja noted that the government has put in place an enabling environment so that farmers can access both local and regional markets.

Hajji Bashir Lubega, the Mubende Municipality MP, and the District Woman MP Hope Grania Nakazibwe asked the government to intervene on some of the issues affecting farmers such as fake chemicals and inputs on the market.

Responding to the concerns, the Prime Minister assured the farmers that the government has instituted measures to tackle the challenges through the Uganda Bureau of Standards (UNBS).

The Mayor of Mubende Municipality, Engineer Ssekiziyivu Innocent thanked the NRM government for supporting the development of Mubende.

The smallholder farmer's exhibition held under the theme “Increasing productivity and usage of Technology” was sponsored by Post Bank Uganda, in conjunction with Natiggo Farm Consult.

The farmers asked the government to earmark a farmers’ national day in Uganda so that their contributions can be recognized.

The best farmer was given a Brand New Motorcycle.
