Prof. Tumusiime Mutebile Memorial Service

Bank of Uganda, in conjunction with All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, Kampala, has held the first memorial prayers on the first anniversary since the death of former Central Bank Governor Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.  

The Assistant Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese, the Rt. Rev. Hannington Mutebi, led the service to celebrate the life of Professor Mutebile. In attendance were Bank of Uganda and other government officials, relatives, friends, political and religious leaders.

Professor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile born on 27th, January 1949 died on 23rd January 2022 aged 73. He had served as the Bank of Uganda Governor for over 20 years from 2001.

The Assistant Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese, the Rt. Rev. Hannington Mutebi, led the memorial service All Saints Cathedral Nakasero, gave a message of comfort, drawing from John 11:1-45

David Mutebile , a younger brother to the late Prof. Mutebile gave a history of his brother and described him as a generous man with whom they shared everything.

The vice chancellor of International University of East Africa, Professor Emeka Akaezuwa, commended the late for his good leadership when he was the Chancellor of the University for twelve years

Professor Tumusiime Mutebile was a decorated economist and long serving senior government official.  Before his appointment by President Yoweri Museveni as the Central Bank Governor, Mutebile had served as the Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.  He had worked in the ministry for decades and rose through the ranks since leaving Makerere University where he was the Gild President in the 1960s.
