Professional Science Teachers’ Union Refutes Allegations

RITAH

The Uganda Professional Science Teachers’ Union (UPSTU) has strongly refuted allegations circulating about science teachers seeking early retirement to unjustly benefit from the government’s pay enhancement program.

Mugaiga Aron, General Secretary of the Union, addressed the claims, emphasizing that investigations are underway to gather factual evidence and clear any misconceptions.

The Union is committed to releasing a comprehensive report once the inquiry is completed to ensure transparency and maintain trust within the education sector.

Following the presidential directive to increase the salaries of science head teachers and deputies in 2022, the increase has not been implemented.

Some science head teachers and deputies had requested demotions to become graduate science teachers.

However, this has been sorted and the Uganda Professional Science Teachers' Union (UPSTU) has raised an appreciation to the government of Uganda and the Ministry of Education for considering salary enhancements for head teachers and deputies.

In the same light, he clarified some of the challenges ICT teachers are still facing when it comes to combination with art subjects whose salaries were not enhanced.

Regarding the early retirement of the science teachers who claimed to want to receive a large gratuity payout, the General Secretary of the Union, Mugaiga Aron, disapproved of the claims.

However, the Union has also clarified the information circulating online concerning early retirement, saying this may be tactics deployed to discredit the science teachers' pay enhancement.

Mugaiga assured the public that investigations started last week and they are still ongoing assuring that the union will release the report soon.

He notes that they need to clear out their names noting that this may cause mistrust in the future.
