Put Fear Aside, Adopt Clean Energy For Domestic Use – Minister Nankabirwa

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Ssentamu Nankabirwa, has yet again called on Ugandans to set aside the fear of using Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and embrace clean and renewable energy to carry on domestic duties.
She also mentioned that electricity cost cutting will be one of the initiatives they will take to enhance the cause.
This was during the media briefing on the forthcoming Energy and Minerals week slated for 13-18th November, 2023.
In May this year, President Museveni issued Executive Order No 3 which, among others banned the production of and trade in charcoal in Northern Uganda, as part of the efforts to protect the environment. The citizens were therefore advised to find other means of domestic thriving other than the use charcoal and the safest option as advised by experts was Liquefied petroleum gas which some of the citizens are still not comfortable with.
Ahead of the energy and mineral week 2023, The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Ssentamu Nankabirwa called on the citizens to set aside fear of using Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to conduct domestic duties before the president resounds a second total ban on the use of charcoal.
The country has seen over 1M electricity connections with the Uganda electricity access rate currently stands at 58%: 20% on grid and 38% off grid, largely solar.
According to the Minister, technical potential for energy efficiency gains in electricity promotion estimated to be over 2200GW of expected pick demand from projected power consumption in 2023.
She said government is taking on initiatives like electricity cost cut and accessibility to enable the action.
Nankabirwa gave updates on the progress of Karuma Hydroelectric Power Station.
The energy minister reminded citizens to avoid taking part in vandalism of electricity lines, and power theft else they will face the consequences.
She advocated for attendance of the Energy and Minerals Exhibition 2023 in large numbers, as a the entrance will be free. There will also be an exhibition Family day at Akamwesi Shopping Mall on 18th November 2023, the day the exhibition is slated to end.
