Salvation Army Uganda Takes The Lead In Combating Human Trafficking

The Salvation Army Uganda has taken a bold step in the fight against human trafficking with the launch of its National Action Plan. This initiative aims to address the growing issue of modern slavery and human trafficking in Uganda.

The plan outlines a multi-faceted approach, including awareness-raising campaigns, victim support services, and collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

The Salvation Army Uganda leadership has committed to combating human trafficking and modern slavery in Uganda. The National Action Plan represents a significant step towards protecting the vulnerable and holding perpetrators accountable.

Speaking to Juliet Nakyazi, the chief executive officer for coalition against trafficking of persons in Uganda stated that the government has put in place policies that fight against human trafficking in Uganda

She highlighted, however, the challenges faced by lawyers in arresting perpetrators due to corruption.

According to Alex Ssembatya, founder and CEO of the Make a Child Smile organization that fights against human trafficking, the statistics of the number of cases of human trafficking that occur every day show that much effort is needed to curb this monster.

He expressed that they have faced financial challenges as key stakeholders in the fight against this issue and called on the government of Uganda to intervene.
