The exercise which has attracted over 1,000 head teachers and deputies from different schools was opened by Ketty Lamaro, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports on behalf of the senior minister and First Lady Janet Museveni.
Lamaro warned the head teachers against engaging in corrupt practices in the admission process.
Ketty Lamaro, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Sports who officially opened the three warned head teachers against selling placements for money leaving out Students who worked hard to achieve success saying that it affects the children's future
Lamaro also appealed to head teachers to be considerate when setting school fees and enforcing payment because most parents are struggling to educate their children due to the rising tuition in most schools amidst the tough economic times.
COU Family TV engaged some of the head teachers attending the selection exercise. They were pleased that in 2022, students generally performed much better in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams compared to the previous year. As such, many of the elite secondary schools have raised their Senior Five admission cutoff points
Figures from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) indicate that a total of 329,939 candidates passed the 2022 UCE exams compared to 311,233 who passed the previous year.
