Some Soft Drinks on Market contain Alcoholic Content
The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee of Trade, Tourism & Industry of Uganda Hon. Mwine Mpaka has directed Uganda National Bureau of Standards to take responsibility to regulate the manufacture and distribution of kombucha and energy drinks that are not complying with the standards.
He said this during a meeting with officials from UNDA and UNBS where results from samples of carbonated and non-carbonated soft drinks tested to ascertain caffeine levels and presence of sexual potency-enhancing ingredients were revealed.
The Committee was informed that some soft drinks such as kombuchas in the market including Kituzi, power bank, Sabarara extra, and Entare Sana contain alcohol content.
However, the report that was presented before the Committee also shows that all the 23 energy drink samples that were tested complied with the functional caffeine limit of 320mg/kg in the carbonated and non-carbonated soft drinks standard.
