Soroti Priest Warns Against Immorality

The Chancellor Soroti Catholic Diocese, the Rev. Fr. Gonzaga Ongereny Waziwazi warned youths against being lured into immoral acts such as homosexuality.

Fr. Ongereny gave the counsel during the launch of the Centenary Celebrations of the Little Sisters of St. Francis at Immaculate Conception in Soroti city. The launch also saw four Little sisters of St. Francis make perpetual Professions.

 

The Chancellor Soroti Catholic Diocese, the Reverend Father Gonzaga Ongereny Waziwazi sent a strong message to the youth, warning them not to accept foreign cultures being promoted to destroy the African culture. He urged them to love God and their culture.

Fr. Ongereny was speaking during the launch of the Centenary Celebrations of the Little Sisters of St. Francis at Immaculate Conception in Soroti city. 

He urged Christians to continue contributing towards the construction of the multibillion shilling storage house for the little sisters of St. Francis in Nkokonjeru.

The Superior General, Mother Kevin Spiritual Centre at Nkokonjeru Retirement home,   Rev. Sister Rita Christine Nakitende said that they had put up Monument with 100 self-contained rooms and part of the building will accommodate aging and sick sisters . 

Nakitende says they are looking for seven billion Uganda shillings to complete the building. She thanked the people of Teso who contributed towards the construction of the centennial monument.

During the fundraising, the Gweri County MP, Tom Julius Ekudo bought a portrait of Mother Kevin at 500,000 shillings. It was handed over to him by Soroti Catholic Bishop the Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach. Ekudo promised to deliver the portrait to the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among.

The Little sisters of St. Francis will be celebrating 100 years on 6th May 2023 at their headquarters in Nkokonjeru, Buikwe district. The congregation was founded in 1923 by Irish Missionary, Mother Mary Kevin Kearney.
