Speaker Among Hails Civil Society

The Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has hailed the work being done by the civil society organizations in the country.

The Speaker made the comments as he interacted with the leaders of NGO forum on how they can continue to supplement the work of government. The officials made a courtesy call on Speaker Among at her chambers in the Parliamentary buildings.

The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among held a discussion with a team of leaders of civil society organizations on how Parliament of Uganda can work with the CSOs to address the needs of the everyday Ugandan.

The Speaker says the August House is pro-people and is privileged to carry on a renewed stakeholder engagement with the civil society.

She says Parliament will always be open to sharing ideas with all groups working towards a better Uganda.

The Executive Director of the NGO Forum, Moses Isooba insists that the civil society proposes a nationwide consultative process to generate national consensus on key governance reforms.

The call comes on the backdrop of strong CSO demands on government accountability on the utilisation of taxpayers' money.

The NGO Forum says it's ready to work with government to enhance service delivery.

The NGO Forum and the Speaker of Parliament underscored the need to create a meaningful engagement, and asked government to strengthen collaborations with all parties for the good of the country.
