
Stray Bullet Hits A Two Year Old Baby In Hoima City
The gunshot victim has been identified as Altakabir Kyakuhaire, a son of Ashraf Kyakuhaire and Margrete Atuhurra, resident of Bulemwa village in Hoima West division, Hoima City.
Margrete Atuhurra, the mother of the victim says the driver of a Toyota wish in reverse knocked a Toyota Ipsum car that had plain clothed people and one of them opened fire.
Following the incident, she saw blood coming from the head of her baby whom she had on her laps.
CHARITY KYOMUHENDO – Resident ’’They were not in uniform, one was putting on a T-shirt, he has passed here running with a gun and boarded a vehicle that was following him, in few minutes the lady told us that her son has been hit with a bullet, I was fearing also fearing for my life because others entered into their houses.’’
Some of the eye witnesses have explained that the officers in an Ipsum vehicle who had come to arrest occupants of a Toyota Wish car opened fire when the driver knocked their vehicle while trying to escape.
SB - MARY RUBAZA - Resident ’’there have been three cars, one behind, one in the middle and another one in front, so the one in the middle reversed and knocked the one behind. When he passed through them, the occupants of the car that was behind started firing bullets in public, we are not happy with an officer for firing bullets in the public, at least he would have shot tyres not in public.’’
SB - JOSHUA AYESIGA - Resident ’’at first we thought it was a tyre puncture because the vehicle was moving in zigzag form. We later saw people with guns chasing it and it left them.’’
Ashraf Kyakuhaire, the father of the victim wants Police to treat his son since he was innocently hit.
Innocent Kusiima, The Medical Clinical Officer at Destiny medical center where the minor is being hospitalized has noted that the minor has suffered a deep cut wound with a minor bone scratch.
The Albertine region police spokesperson ASP Julius Hakiza Allan has noted that police regrets the incident. He has however not explained whether Police will meet the medical expenses.
He has also explained that the officers continued to pursue the vehicle and impounded it after the occupants abandoned it in Kasingo village, Hoima West division.
Police has reported that there is an increased car theft in region with eight cases registered in the last one month.
