Sunday Service Roundup: Christians Urged to Trust God and Cast Burdens Upon Christ. Believers Encouraged to Live Out Faith Through Unity, Purpose, And Discernment
Christians across the country have been urged to deepen their faith by trusting in God, embracing unity, and living purpose-driven lives, as Sunday sermons emphasised love, stewardship, discernment, and the call to spread the Gospel as central to Christian living.
At All Saints Cathedral, the theme of the day was “Unity in Christ,” drawn from 1 Corinthians 1:10–17. The Preacher of the Day, Elizabeth Kukunda Bacwayo, urged Christians to remain steadfast in unity by embracing the teachings and life of Christ. She reminded the congregation that without the cross, there would be no love among believers and no true unity, emphasising love as the foundation of lasting fellowship.
At Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, the Preacher was the Rt. Rev. Dr Marcus Madugu Dogo, who is a prominent Nigerian Anglican bishop serving as the Bishop of Kafanchan.
His message focused on living a life set apart from worldly patterns. Believers were encouraged to cast their burdens upon Christ and avoid worry, with the preacher reminding the congregation that God remains in control of every situation.
At St. Stephen’s Kisugu Church of Uganda, the theme “Benefiting from Your God-Given Abilities,” drawn from Nehemiah 2:1–10 and Luke 19:11–27, guided the service. The provincial Father’s Union President, Samuel A. Bakutana, encouraged Christians to recognise and utilise their talents effectively, urging them to follow Christ’s example in maximising their potential for both personal growth and kingdom advancement.
At St. Francis Chapel Makerere, the theme “The Voice of God: The Holy Spirit and Discernment” called on worshippers to seek divine guidance in their daily lives. Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa emphasised the importance of relying on God’s Word as a constant guide and trusting the Holy Spirit to lead believers into truth.
And at Kakumba Chapel, Kyambogo University, the message “Risen and Appearing to Commission” highlighted the call to evangelism. Odiya Joseph urged believers to use their gifts in service to God and to actively share the Gospel, reminding them that preaching, teaching, and personal testimonies are powerful tools for spreading Christ’s message.
Across the pulpits, one message stood out: faith must be lived out daily through love, unity, and action, as believers continue to reflect Christ in their communities and beyond.
