The Value Of Independence Is Lost - Amuriat

PRIMA

Ahead of the 61st Uganda Independence Day celebrations, the FDC party president, Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat said that the value of having independence is unfelt.

He also said there is nothing to brag about in what he called the “extravagant” celebrations because democracy has been invaded and the rule of law is not being exercised.

He said this while he concluded his final party presidency campaign at his home in Najjera today, ahead of national executive committee (NEC) elections expected to take place on 6th October 2023.

Every year on 9 October Uganda celebrates Independence Day by lighting candles and holding official celebrations on the Kololo ceremonial grounds. Uganda originally gained its independence from Britain in 1962 after many years of calling for freedom

On several occasions, the Ministry for the Presidency has continued to recount the achievements attained in the 38 years of rule under the leading NRM political party, saying it is worth celebrating the country’s independence.

As Uganda is expected to be celebrating 61 years of independence on 9 October 2023, the FDC party president, Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat Uganda contradicted the former, saying that Uganda is not a free country since we are under bondage by foreign debt.

He also said the value of independence has been lowered to the ground.

Amuriat went on to suggest that the country be governed better and that leaders should learn from history.

In line with the demand for graceful leadership, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Najjanankumbi faction is set to conduct the national executive committee (NEC) elections on 6th October 2023,  amidst ongoing disagreements within the party and among those invited are district chairpersons, district general secretaries, district secretaries for publicity and mobilization, district women league chairpersons, and district youth secretaries.

Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi, who want to retain their positions as party president and secretary general, respectively are vying for the mentioned NEC positions.
