
There Are Better Ways To Discipline Children – Experts
According to the National Survey on Violence against Children, corporal punishment is illegal, yet 75 per cent of children report being beaten by their parents or guardians.
We speak to Dr. Hanifa Ssengendo to explain to us at what age a parent start disciplining must their child?
We probe further to pick her mind on what would be the ideal ways to discipline child.
To Dr. Hanifa, poor parenting is the major cause of poor discipline in children. We ask, what then can parents do to safeguard their children both at parenting and disciplinary levels.
There are persistent traditional, cultural and historical arguments in support of physical punishment as a way of discipline.
The pious ones point to the Bible text in Proverbs 13:24 that says, “He who spares the rod spoils his child, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.”
Reverend David Asiimwe, the youth and children pastor at St. Stephens Church of Uganda, Kisugu shares with us the biblical view on disciplining children, emphasizing the expression of love and correction in the means of discipline.
