Thousand Attend Kabaka’s 30th Coronation Anniversary

The current king of the Buganda kingdom Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II officially became the king in 1993  and today marks his 30th coronation anniversary.

The coronation which took place at Mengo, palace gathered thousands of men and women from different areas and over 3000 guests who prayed for Kabaka and wished him more years of ruling and guiding the Buganda kingdom.

All roads headed to Mengo palace at Twekobe warn on cultural wears gomesis kanzu in order to celebrate the day.

On July, 31st 1993 at Naggalabi, Buddo hill in Wakiso district the kabaka of Buganda ascended to the throne and his coronation follows the reinstatement of traditional rulers by the ruling  NRM by then the national resistance army NRA after kingdoms had initially been abolished by Apollo Milton Obote.

In his speech, while addressing the congregation, he appreciated the people of Buganda together with all Ugandans for praying and loving the kingdom.

He commented on the girls who are mistreated while in the Arab countries and yet they are given nothing for their tail. Kabaka also highlighted the key issues the youths face in their day-to-day life most especially those who live along lake shores.

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga during his speech recounted the achievements of the kingdom and its ruler especially to the lives of people, in terms of land restoration mostly in the kingdom, and in the delivery of services mostly to the youths solving issues of unemployment, among others.

Owekitibwa says that kabaka and Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nagginda, the Nnabagereka of Buganda, have made a positive change in the lives of women and young girls in the communities in terms of positive cultural values through various projects like the Nnabagereka Development Foundation, Kisakate among others.

However, he urged all the people to continue to support Kabaka mostly through protecting the rights of people in the Buganda kingdom and also to look into the social and economic development in the country.

Canon Enos Kitto Kagodo the 5th Bishop of Mukono Diocese, was so overwhelmed with joy to be at the coronation, he wished Kabaka a life full of health.
