Toro Kingdom And Habitat For Humanity Join Forces In Toro Descent Living Campaign To Build Homes For The Needy.

In a groundbreaking partnership aimed at addressing housing challenges and improving the lives of the less fortunate, the Toro Kingdom has joined forces with the international non-governmental organization Habitat for Humanity.

Together, they are embarking on the "Toro Descent Living" campaign, an initiative that seeks to provide homes for those in need within the kingdom.

Under the campaign, the collaborative effort aims to construct affordable and sustainable homes for families facing housing challenges within the kingdom.

Harriet Nyakake, the Toro kingdom's first deputy prime minister, says the campaign reflects the kingdom’s commitment to the well-being of the people.

According to Habitat for Humanity, the housing deficit in Uganda stands at 24 million housing units out of which 210 units are in urban areas and 1395 million units are in rural areas.

An estimated 900,000 units are substandard and in need of replacement or upgrading in the next two years.

Vicent Agaba from Habitat for Humanity says the campaign will involve collaborating with local partners and volunteers to bring this ambitious project to fruition.

The development was revealed at the handover of 11 houses built by Habitat for Humanity for the vulnerable people in Kabende Sub County in Kabarole district.

The 11 new homes, constructed with the involvement of community members, adhere to modern construction standards while considering the unique needs of the families involved.

The houses are equipped with essential amenities, ensuring a comfortable living environment for the residents.

The beneficiaries of this project are individuals and families identified as particularly vulnerable within the community.

Rwabuhinga Richard, the Kabarole district chairperson praised the organization for the initiative and challenged the beneficiaries not to use the houses as security for bank loans.

Some of the beneficiaries praised the organization for building houses for them saying this was a beginning of a new chapter in their families.
