has a total number of 27,731 people living with HIV/AIDS with a bigger number of this total being women at 16,707 while men with HIV in the district are at 9664, and children stand at 1360.
This makes the region’s prevalence rate 3 times to the National HIV prevalence rate that is at 5%.
During a press conference organized at the Kingdom Administrative Headquarters in Mucwa Fort Portal, Steven Kiyingi Amooti, the Toro Kingdom Prime Minister revealed that the prevalence rate is so alarming.
Mr. Kiyingi called for the intervention of everyone in the fight against the scourge.
Dr. Tito Beyeza, the kingdom’s minister of health says their research indicates that high levels of poverty among others factors are the catalysts behind the high numbers in the region.
Dr. Beyeza says all stakeholders should join hands in fighting against the disease.
Meanwhile, the kingdom has organized an end of year music concert which will take place on 31st of this Month with a purpose of sensitizing the attendants on HIV/AIDS.
