Tourism Revenue Drops To 50billion From 100billion Before Covid 19

George Owoyesigire, Ag.Asst.Commissioner, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities noted that Uganda’s gorilla population is still shallow compared to the size of Mgahinga National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the habitat is adequate for the population.

He adds that this cuts across several countries like Rwanda, Congo and Uganda which have only 1,000 gorillas.
This comes when the country is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of conversation through public health

According to George Owoyesigire, Ag. Asst. Commissioner, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities the gorilla’s population growth is low compared to the size of habitats and this is due to the low births in gorillas because of the natural factors that restrict the growth of the population.

However, he acknowledges that Uganda’s income is now at 50 billion shillings compared to the various years when the tourism industry would earn 100 billion shillings per year from investors to view the gorillas.

According to DR Gladys zikusoka, the founder and CEO of Conservation through Public Health, the organization aims to promote biodiversity conservation by enabling the coexistence of people, gorillas and the environment by improving health and livelihoods in and around Africa’s protected areas.

According to the World Life Tourism Act, it is mandatory to create awareness among the public about tourism. In the policy review formulation, one of the requirements is to consult stakeholders and the public regarding the gorillas.
