Trade Order Operation Takes Shape In Namataba:Causes Set Back In The Lives Of Many People. Acts Of Demolishing People's Houses Without Notice Condemned
In plans of restructuring and organizing the city, KCCA has continued to carry out operations to evict people working on the streets and to demolish substandard buildings, including those built in wetlands. Today's fate fell in Namataba village, where people's houses were thrown apart, leaving many crying and lamenting due to lack of capital to move into other destinations for settlement.
Following KCCA’s plans to organize the city and do away with substandard cities, there was commotion in Namataba village over the demolition of people’s property. Some of these people claimed there wasn’t any reason given to them
There was chaos during the enforcement of the trade order in Namataba Town Council in Mukono District during the demolition by KCCA when the owner engaged in a scuffle with the tractor driver.
Namataba police arrived shortly after, led by the OC to calm the situation
According to the owner of this place, Daban Kanakulya, he explained how his property was destroyed without being given a chance to remove it
He accuses Mayor Namujali, of conniving with authority since his own property, situated in a wetland, was allegedly left untouched
Some of the residents supported the trade order but complain that it is selective and there are buildings in the road reserve that were skipped
We managed to find the mayor of Namataba Town Council, Douglas Namujaali, who sympathized with those affected and denied being biased.
He also condemned the chaos that was caused and said those who went overboard will be prosecuted according to the law
