Traffic Police Road Safety Guidelines Ahead Of School Reopening
The Uganda Police have issued road safety and other guidelines as schools reopen for the first term of 2023. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga urged parents to protect their children from wrongdoers.
The police recorded a number of serious traffic accidents in the period before, during and after the 2022 festive season, leaving hundreds dead and many more injured.
As schools reopen for the first term of 2023, the police are urging parents and other stakeholders in the education sector to be vigilant and ensure the safety of children.
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, who addressed journalists at the Police headquarters in Naguru, encouraged parents to ensure that the children memorize their telephone contacts and teach them to avoid people who may be up to no good.
Traffic police Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima urged travellers taking children to school and those on other journeys, to avoid talking to strangers as this may expose them to risks.
Nampiima appealed to boda-boda riders, bus and taxi drivers to ensure that their machines are in good mechanical condition to avoid accidents.
She also asked passengers to be proactive and speak out or report to the nearest police when being driven at high speeds or speak out whenever they are in danger.
Road safety is important and when it comes to children a lot of attention is required from stakeholders, both in the education and transport sectors.
