A study trip for learners of Mwebaza High School in Kakiri, Wakiso District, has ended in tragedy after their bus was involved in a collision with a passenger train at the Namumira railway crossing in Mukono. Along Katosi Road. Emergency responders rushed to the scene as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

 

A journey that was meant to take learners of Mwebaza High School for an educational trip to Jinja turned into a scene of panic after their bus collided with a passenger train at the Namumira railway crossing in Mukono.

The sound of the collision drew residents and motorists to the Namumira railway crossing, where those nearby rushed to offer assistance. 

 

CCTV footage from the area appears to show the bus entering the railway crossing as the train approached, raising questions about what led to the collision. However, authorities are yet to establish the exact circumstances that caused the crash.

Police and other emergency responders worked to assist those affected while securing the scene to allow investigations to begin.

The exact number of fatalities is yet to be established, although several casualties have been reported following the collision.

 

The incident has renewed questions about safety at railway crossings and the need for caution among road users when approaching railway lines.

 

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and more information will be provided once the findings are available.
