Transport Charges Still Stable, 12 Days To Christmas
Transport fares in Kampala and surrounding areas have remained relatively low triggered by subdued demand from the public among other factors. The transport sector usually rises in demand as the festive season nears, but this hasn’t come into play yet.
Today COU family TV visited the old taxi park which is the main public transport station in Kampala city and spoke to some of the drivers, conductors and other service providers who admitted the transport is still very low compared to other past years around this time. Transport is expected to hike in the coming week.
As Ugandans are gearing up for the Christmas season, a good number of them intend to go to villages for celebration as is the African culture but some others travel to tourist attraction centres for holiday. They plan their travels to far places earlier due to fear of hiking transport fares as they approach the festive season. However, speaking to Mwebaze Moses one of the stage masters in Old Park, Transport fares have remained stable this time round compared to the recent years
Minawa Faluku the head of security at Old Tax Park urged passengers to carry manageable luggage for safety purposes since thieves are always on the rise in the Christmas season.
He also noted that during the travelling seasons, parents move with their children recklessly and the children end up getting lost. He revealed that recently, so far three children were seen in the park looking for their parents.
Faluku urged parents to always be mindful of their children’s safety and property as they are travelling.
The public transport providers have also urged passengers to be mindful of the con men who disguise and pretend to help carry their luggage.
