Twaha Fadil Sworn in as New PLU Secretary General: New Leadership Pledges Grassroots Mobilization and Anti-Corruption Drive.PLU Calls for Unity, Discipline and National Transformation
The Patriotic League of Uganda has entered a new chapter following the swearing-in of Hon. Twaha Fadil as its new secretary general. Party leaders used the occasion to rally members around unity, patriotism, grassroots mobilization, and the fight against corruption while tasking the new office bearer with strengthening structures across the country.
More than one hundred Members of Parliament, ministers, officials from the NRM Secretariat, and supporters gathered in Kampala for the official handover of the Secretary General’s office of the Patriotic League of Uganda.
The transition followed the appointment of Hon. Twaha Fadil by the National Chairperson of the Patriotic League of Uganda, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The outgoing Secretary General, Hon. David Kabanda, who was not present at the ceremony, handed over the office through his representatives.
Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Hon. Ojara Mapenduzi, welcomed guests and commended the Patriotic League of Uganda for its continued efforts in promoting patriotism, national unity, and citizen participation in development programs.
Representing the outgoing Secretary General, PLU Mobilization Secretary Michael Mawanda thanked Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his leadership and guidance.
Mawanda acknowledged the achievements and challenges experienced during Hon. David Kabanda’s tenure and urged the incoming secretary general to embrace teamwork, consultation, and servant leadership in executing his duties.
Taking over office, Hon. Twaha Fadil pledged to serve with commitment, integrity, and dedication, promising to advance the vision and objectives of the organization.
Fadil outlined his priorities, including completing organizational structures across the country, strengthening grassroots mobilization, promoting service delivery, empowering young people, fighting corruption, and fostering unity and discipline among members.
National Vice Chairperson Michael Nuwagira, commonly known as Toyota, paid tribute to the outgoing Secretary General for his contribution to the growth and expansion of the league.
He expressed confidence that the new leadership would build on the foundation already laid and accelerate the organization's outreach efforts.
Speaking as chief guest, Rt. Hon. Marksons Oboth Oboth challenged PLU leaders to champion economic transformation, patriotism, and national cohesion.
He urged the league to play a more active role in addressing corruption, which he described as one of the greatest barriers to Uganda’s development and improved service delivery.
Oboth further called on the new secretary general to strengthen accountability within the organization and mobilize citizens to participate in national development programs.
Several leaders, including Hon. Fred Bahati, welcomed Hon. Twaha Fadil into office and expressed optimism that his leadership would strengthen the league's structures and expand its influence across the country.
The leadership transition comes at a time when the Patriotic League of Uganda is seeking to expand its presence nationwide, with expectations that the new secretary general will drive grassroots mobilization, strengthen organizational structures, and advance the league's vision of patriotism, accountability, and national transformation.
