Two Kasese Residents Saved From Drowning In River Nyamwamba

A group of police officers, local leaders and community volunteers rescued two teenagers who were trapped in the middle of the flooded River Nyamwamba.

The two teenagers were trapped as they were trying to cross from Kihara village to Kasese town.

Local leaders have previously complained and appealed to the Government to put in place measures to save lives and property, for fear that River Nyamwamba would flood again due to the current heavy rains.

18-year-old Isaiah Mumbere Isaiah and 16-year-old Bwambale Isaac 16 are residents of Mumbuzi cell, Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality. They were pulled out of the fast-moving flood water as they tried to cross from Kihara village to Kasese town.

The locals have been asked to remain vigilant especially when crossing the river during the rainy season since it River Nyamwamba normally floods during the month of May

The Kasese District Police Commander, Wilfred Bagenda, led a team from the police unit in charge of fire and rescue services, following an alert by a Good Samaritan.

Over the years since 2023, River Nyamwamba has often flooded, leaving destruction in its wake. Scores of lives have been lost, property destroyed and critical infrastructure such as roads and health centres, including Kilembe Mines Hospital have been damaged.
