
Two people died in a stone quarry in Kasese
Two people have lost their lives in a stone quarry in Mushenene Village, Nyakuyumbu subcounty kasese district.
These were extracting stones, an activity that has been there source of income.
The deceased have been identified as Stephen Bwambale 29yrs and Edward Mutebwa 42yrs who were in the stone quarry at the time of death in Mushenene Village, Nyakuyumbu Sub County Kasese District
According to the Chairperson LC3 for Nyakiyumbu Peter Kakule, the men were looking for gold when the wall fell onto them.
Kakule says much as the community is earning the residents an income, the activity is illegal.
Residents who fear that the incident may recur call relevant authorities intervene.
ASP Nelson Tumushine the Police Spokesperson for Rwenzori East has confirmed the incident.
Tumushine further noted it that as police they will make sure they come up with a solution on how to stop illegal mining in the area
The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed at Bwera hospital for post mortem as police investigates what could be the cause of their death.
