UCU Empowers Bukedi Diocese Clergy with Targeted Training at St. Peter’s Cathedral
Uganda Christian University (UCU) reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the spiritual and operational effectiveness of the clergy through a specialized training program held on June 25, 2025, at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Bukedi Diocese.
The event drew 150 clergy members from diverse parts of the diocese, forming part of UCU's broader vision of building capacity among church leaders and fostering closer collaboration with dioceses across the Uganda Anglican Province. The training focused on equipping clergy with practical skills and spiritual insights to enhance their mission-driven work.
Rev. Dr. Richard Mulindwa, UCU’s Manager for Church Relations, expressed gratitude to the Bishop of Bukedi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Bogere Egesa, praising his visionary leadership and ongoing support towards the university’s initiatives. “As chairman of the Governing Council of Mbale University College, I am proud of the continuous growth and solidarity we experience from UCU and our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Canon Aaron Mushengyezi,” Bishop Egesa remarked. He added, “Supporting our university is part of our calling because it shapes our future leaders and community.”
The clergy retreat was anchored on the theme “Let us not grow weary in doing good,” drawing inspiration from Galatians 6:9, emphasizing perseverance in service and faith.
Rev. Dr. Asaph Wasswa, a lecturer at UCU’s School of Education and a lead facilitator, challenged the clergy to become effective stewards of the Church’s resources. “We are not poor as a church—we are just poor managers,” he noted. “Effective financial management and integrity are crucial for the gospel to be preached effectively and sustained.”
Dr. Mulindwa also conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the Bukedi clergy for their warmth and active participation during UCU’s Sunday celebrations. He underscored that such solidarity and partnership are essential for fulfilling UCU’s mission of nurturing leaders who excel academically and are spiritually grounded.
This event in Bukedi is part of an expanding series of diocesan engagements initiated by UCU’s Church Relations department, aimed at fostering unity, capacity building, and collaborative mission efforts within the Anglican Church of Uganda.
