Uganda Christian University has intensified preparations for this year’s Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations, with major infrastructure upgrades underway at the Namugongo Anglican Site to ensure a safe and seamless experience for thousands of pilgrims.

With just 29 days to the commemoration of Uganda Martyrs Day, UCU’s Aaron Mushengyezi, leading this year’s organisation, together with the university’s top leadership, has inspected ongoing works at the Namugongo Anglican Site ahead of the June 3rd celebrations.

The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s commitment to delivering a fully prepared venue, with key upgrades including improved water supply, renovation of washrooms, repair of perimeter walls, and enhancement of walkways and access roads.

He also outlined plans to enhance the pilgrims’ experience by installing digital billboards to broadcast proceedings, along with solar-powered lighting to strengthen security at the site.

Professor Mushengyezi expressed confidence that all works will be completed and handed over by mid-May, in line with the event timeline.

Entrusted by the Church of Uganda House of Bishops with organising this year's celebrations, Uganda Christian University is introducing new measures to improve coordination, safety, and participation at the Anglican site.

On financing, he confirmed that out of the required 4 billion shillings, 3 billion has already been secured—2 billion from the government and 1 billion from the university, while efforts continue to mobilise the remaining funds.

With weeks to go, organisers remain confident that preparations will be completed in time to host pilgrims from across Uganda and beyond, as the country marks one of its most significant faith events.
