UG Catalyst Summit 2026 To Drive Enterprise Growth:International MSME Day Celebrations.Government Unveils Plan To Expand Uganda’s Economy To 150 Billion By 2030
Uganda has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to grow its economy to USD 150 billion by 2030, with government and private sector leaders calling for accelerated innovation, entrepreneurship, and enterprise development as key drivers of the country's transformation agenda.
The commitment was highlighted today during a media engagement at the Uganda Media Centre ahead of the International MSME Day 2026 celebrations and the UG Catalyst Summit, scheduled for June 25–27, 2026.
Uganda is gearing up for the International MSME Day 2026 celebrations and the UG Catalyst Summit, set for June 25th to 27th, with government officials highlighting the critical role of small businesses in driving the country's ambition to grow its economy to 150 billion dollars by 2030.
During a media engagement at the Uganda Media Centre, stakeholders emphasized innovation, entrepreneurship, and the formalization of MSMEs as key pillars for achieving this target.
According to Dr. Asumani Guloba, the Director of Research and Development Performance at the National Planning Authority noted that the economy currently stands at between 50 U.S. dollars and 60, underscoring the need for accelerated growth driven by innovation, investment, and enterprise development.
Ngenzi Rita Ngenzi, Executive Director of Innovation Village Hub, said the initiative seeks to empower young entrepreneurs involved in SMEs by providing them with the support, mentorship, and guidance needed to strengthen their contribution to Uganda's economic growth and enterprise development.
Patrick J. Mugisha, Commissioner of Business Development and Quality Assurance for the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives, voiced that there will be Increased visibility and recognition of Uganda’s MSMEs and their contribution to national development
As the government continues to implement the National Development Plan IV and the Tenfold Growth Strategy, MSMEs remain the primary vehicles through which innovation, entrepreneurship, and industrial transformation will be realized.
