
Uganda Eyes To Sign Final Investment Decision For The Oil Refinery By End Of 2023
The Government Of Uganda Has Finalized Plans To Make A Final Investment Decision (FID) For The Crude Oil Refinery Before The End Of This Year. This Refinery Will Be Constructed In Kabalega Industrial Area In Hoima District. It Is Expected To Cost Between 3 Billion And 4 Billion Dollars, And Also Create Jobs For A Number Of Ugandans.
The Refinery Will Receive Crude Oil Via A Heated Northern And A Heated Southern Pipeline, For Which The Nzizi Power Station, A 100 Megawatt Thermal Power Plant, Using Natural Gas And Heavy Fuel Oil As Raw Material Will Be Built, A Hospital And An International Airport.
The Uganda Oil Refinery Is A Planned Crude Oil Refinery In Kabaale Village, On The Eastern Shore Of Lake Albert Along The Hoima–Kaiso–Tonya Road, Buseruka Sub-County, Hoima District, Western Region, Uganda, Near The International Border With The Democratic Republic Of The Congo. After 5 Years Of Negotiations, The Albertine Graben Refinery Consortium was Formed In 2018 And Agreed To Design And Build The Refinery.
Robert Mukondo, An Officer Working For Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) Says The Government Is Planning To Build And Operate A 60,000 Barrel Per Day Refinery At A Projected Cost Of 3 Billion Dollars-4 Billion Dollars.
He Also Added That The Refinery Will Need About 40 Kilometers Of Access Roads, Electricity, And Abstracted Water From Lake Albert Among Other Needs.
Yusuf Masaba, A Corporate Affairs Officer At the Petroleum Authority Of Uganda Noted That Negotiations To Have A Refinery Final Investment Development Will Not Delay Uganda's Target To Start Producing Crude Oil In 2025.
Masaba Says The Government Plan Is To Have the Commercialization Of Uganda’s Oil Into Two Phases, That Is The East African Crude Oil Pipeline And The Oil Refinery. This Was Revealed During A Guided Tour Of Government Ministry Communicators Under Their Association Public Relations Association Of Uganda In The Kabale Industrial Area.
Uganda Discovered Crude Reserves In The Albertine Rift In 2006 And Reserves Are Estimated At 6.5 Billion Barrels.
The Oil Fields Are Jointly Owned By France's Total Energies, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, And The Uganda National Oil Company (Unoc).
