Uganda Gears Up To Celebrate Youth Power In Masindi

Uganda is set to commemorate International Youth Day on September 19th in Masindi District, with a strong call to empower young people through technology, partnerships, and innovation.

According to Youth State Minister Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, Technology, innovation and youthful energy are the pillars of this year’s International Youth Day celebrations in Uganda noting that the young people are already leading change across sectors

Originally set for August 12th, the national celebration of International Youth Day was moved to September 19th to allow for broader mobilization and planning.

This year’s theme “Youth Advancing Socio-Economic Transformation through Technology and Partnerships” highlights the Government's commitment to placing youth at the heart of Uganda’s development journey.

Uganda remains one of the world’s youngest countries. According to the 2024 Census, 73.2% of Ugandans are under 30, and 22.7% fall within the national youth age bracket of 18 to 30. This youthful majority presents both a challenge and an opportunity, depending on how well the nation invests in their potential.

From the Youth Livelihood Programme to the upcoming National Youth Innovation Fund, the Government has rolled out several interventions to tackle unemployment, skills gaps and limited access to capital.

As Uganda heads to Masindi for this year’s International Youth Day, the government set out to support Uganda's young people who can and will transform the nation.
