She said this, backing it up with her declaration to step down from parliament leadership after one term in what she stated will promote opportunity for other women to lead.

This was while she and other MPs attended the second Women's Parliament session hosted at parliament today. Today, the speaker of parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among together with other MPs attended the second Women's Parliament session under the theme, “consolidating women's social and economic transformation in Uganda”.

Among the activities was the election and declaration of the women parliament heads including speaker, deputy speaker and whip.

Speaker Among elaborated on the relevance of such gatherings in light of contributing to the growth of women in the country.

She also encouraged women to step up and take on leadership roles, announcing her decision to step down from politics after her next term in-order to provide an opportunity for other women to join politics.

Giving an account of past events, the Clerk of Parliament Adolf Mwesigye, mentioned the changes recorded in the respect and promotion of women’s voices in parliament.

“in 1962 there were only two women in parliament but as of today there are 196 women MPs in the 11th parliament ”

Women leaders stated that corruption continues to be one of the major factors affecting the achievement of women objectives among other developments in the country.

While chairing the women’s plenary in the chambers, the elected speaker of the women’s parliament, Faridah Kinobe called on women to embrace government programs.
