Uganda Loses Distinguished Public Servant Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut

The country woke up to the sad news and for many, a shocking loss as the death of former Cabinet Minister Mary Karooro Okurut was announced yesterday across various media platforms. A pillar in Uganda’s political and educational spheres, Hon. Okurut leaves behind a deep void in the hearts of many.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, she is being remembered for her wisdom, grace, and unwavering dedication to public service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of many.

The news of Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut’s passing came as a shock and sadness to many across the country. The former Cabinet Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister was first admitted to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala before being airlifted to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, where she passed away.

A respected figure in both the political and educational arenas, Hon. Okurut left a lasting impact on many. Today, several prominent individuals came forward to pay tribute. The provost of All Saints Cathedral Kampala led the tributes, offering prayers and encouraging the family to remain strong during this difficult time.

Filled with emotion, the former Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Eng. Irene Muloni, described Hon. Okurut as gentle and calm, praising the impactful work she carried out during her time in the cabinet.

The Minister of Defence commended the late Mary Karooro Okurut for her dedicated service to the country over the years, highlighting her commitment in the various roles she held.

Several Members of Parliament also paid tribute, recalling Hon. Okurut’s achievements and sharing personal reflections on the kind of person she was.
