
Uganda Ready For Uganda-South Africa Investment Summit
Uganda is set to participate in the Uganda-South Africa Trade, Tourism and Investment Summit to run from 27th February to 1st March 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa.
The Summit is intended to develop business partnerships between the two countries and create investment opportunities for individual citizens and organizations.
Uganda has enjoyed warm bilateral relations with South Africa from 1994 when the Apartheid policy officially ended.
The Minister of State for Privatization and Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite addressed journalists at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala, where she explained the significance of the Uganda – South Africa Trade, Tourism and Investment Summit.
She said that it is a way of working to achieve number five of the NRM ten-point programme which advocates for building an independent integrated and self-sustaining economy.
Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Hon Paul Amoru, said there is need to ensure that Uganda benefits economically from the good relations it enjoys with South Africa. He noted that over the years, Uganda has enjoyed good relations with South Africa over the years through exports and this summit is to strengthen the business partnerships.
The South African High Commissioner to Uganda Her Excellency Lulama Mary – Theresa Xingwana said Uganda is blessed with tourist attractions but it will be more impactful if there is good infrastructure. She added that Infrastructure will help in producing good quality products that will find market ready abroad.
The Chairman of the Uganda Investment Authority Board of Directors, Morrison Rwakakamba explained that the process of value addition has started in Uganda and therefore the Uganda-South Africa summit comes at the right time.
So far, 160 Ugandan businesses have registered to participate in the summit, with the highest percentage coming from players in the sectors of agriculture and agri-business, tourism and hospitality, professional services, transport and logistics, energy and minerals, and ICT.
