Uganda Set To Build Sustainable Partnerships With Kenya Coast To Boost Tourism
Today the Ministry for foreign affairs in partnership with other stakeholders have launched the 2nd Uganda Kenya coast tourism conference, excursion and FAM Trip 2023, aimed at initiating all Ugandans to tour and visit Kenyan places for business and also to explore, invest in opportunities in the tourism sector in Kenya.
This event was launched by the minister of state for foreign affairs hon. john Mulimba who was also the chief guest.
Uganda is seeking a partnership that will see the Pearl of Africa tap into the big number of visitors to Kenya’s coastal towns and the respective beaches on the coast.
Every year thousands of visitors, especially from Europe, America and beyond visit the Kenyan coast to enjoy various tourism products including the historical Fort Jesus, beaches, resorts, marine, national parks, and elephant sanctuary among others.
Honourable John Mulimba state minister for foreign affairs says Kenya's tourism has great significance for the Ugandan as products can be sold at the coast.
Uganda is Kenya’s second biggest source market for tourists, in 2022 150,900 Ugandans visited Kenya, and out of these 22,200 visited Kenya's coast, rising from 10,100 in 2021, likewise Kenya is Uganda’s leading source market for tourists.
In 2022 376,294 Kenyans visited Uganda indicating an increase of over 40,000 tourists from 2021 where 326,387 Kenyans visited Uganda.
Honourable Martin Bahinduka Mugara the state minister for tourism wildlife and antiquities urged mostly the stakeholders to consider the 2nd Uganda Kenya coast tourism conference which will expand the business and partnership of both countries.
The Kenya high commissioner to Uganda H.E major general George Owino called upon parties and players in the tourism sector to improve their hospitability and service delivery to the tourist for the sector in both countries to flourish.
Some of the stakeholders from Kenya and Uganda highlighted the major key points regarding tourism emphasizing that this is not a competition.
