Ugandans Speak Out on Expectations as Museveni Begins New Term: Citizens Call for Jobs, Better Healthcare, And Lower Poverty Levels. Ordinary Ugandans Want Action on Corruption, Education, An
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today officially taken oath for another term as Uganda’s Head of State, with government declaring a public holiday to allow citizens across the country to witness the inauguration ceremony.
But beyond the colorful celebrations and state ceremony at Kololo, many ordinary Ugandans say the new term should focus on addressing the daily struggles affecting citizens.
Our reporter took to the streets of Kampala to hear what Ugandans expect from the President’s new mandate.
For many Ugandans, the presidential swearing-in is more than a constitutional ceremony.
It represents a fresh opportunity for government to respond to the challenges facing ordinary citizens, including poverty, unemployment, poor healthcare, corruption, and the high cost of living.
Some residents say the new term will only become meaningful if it improves the welfare of ordinary people both in urban centres and rural communities.
Others called on government to prioritize better healthcare services, improve education standards, rehabilitate roads, and address unemployment among the youth.
Supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement also expressed optimism, urging the President to protect achievements made under his leadership while strengthening the fight against corruption.
Several residents also raised concern over rising insecurity, unemployment, and maternal health challenges in public hospitals.
Others appealed for improved access to affordable credit and revival of economic opportunities that can support small businesses and household incomes.
Residents from different regions of the country also called for increased support to agriculture and improvement in the prices of cash crops.
As President Museveni begins another term in office, voices from Kampala and beyond continue to reflect the expectations of many Ugandans, with citizens now looking forward to tangible action on service delivery, economic empowerment, and improved livelihoods.
