Ugandans Urge The Government To Prioritize The Country’s Economy

Ritah Nandera

As independence celebrations were ongoing, Ugandans around Kampala urged the government to reconsider some of the key challenges that the government has failed to handle when it comes to economic development.

However, Ugandans are hopeful for a better future and Family TV spoke to some of them to get their views on this glorious day.

As the country at large was in its commemorations of Uganda’s 61st Independence Day celebrations that were happening in Kitgum district, some of the Ugandans in Kampala opted to resume their work as usual. This was attributed to what they term as a weak economy and some of them cannot imagine missing a day off their schedule as this will take them back a mile.

The locals have expressed low levels of excitement towards the day’s celebrations. Most of them claimed Independence Day has not benefited them as Ugandans.

Some of these Ugandans point out some of the major challenges the country is facing and how they’re affecting them negatively and yet they hoped for a bright future as the country’s motto says for God and my country.

They have urged government officials to revise the tax increase, poor roads, and corruption among others and also to consider the poor Ugandans who have no help. They attribute all this to poor leadership and bad governance.

Today Uganda celebrated its Independence Day. The African nation earned sovereignty after seventy years under British control. On this day in 1962, Uganda was officially declared a free state by the international community and it became a republic on its own.
