UNEB Cites Better Performance In 2022 PLE
The 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) results are out. According to the Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), Daniel Nokrach Odongo, the candidates performed better than those of the previous year.
The Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni who released the results from State Lodge Nakasero, noted that at least 714,702 candidates passed the 2022 examinations compared to the 659,910 of the previous national exams 2020. We have a detailed report.
A total of eight hundred thirty-two thousand six hundred fifty-four (832,654) candidates from fourteen thousand six hundred ninety-one (14,691) centers registered for PLE in 2022 compared to seven hundred forty-nine thousand seven hundred sixty-one (749,761) in 2020.
Of this number, five hundred eighty-three thousand seven hundred sixty-eight (583,768) from eleven thousand three hundred six (11,306) centres were Universal Primary Education (UPE) beneficiaries while two hundred forty-eight thousand nine hundred eighty-two (248,982) of the candidates were from Non UPE schools. The proportion of candidates benefitting from the UPE increased by 1.7%.
Proportionally, male pupils performed better than their female counterparts and recorded a lower failure rate. However, girls returned a better performance in English language compared to boys.
The minister also spoke tough on examination malpractice which she says is on the rise, warning the culprits of dire consequences.
A total of 97,109 candidates failed the 2022 primary leaving examinations. However, the minister advised pupils who did not make it not to lose hope but keep striving for better.
The education minister also revealed that there were more Special Needs candidates who were partially blind, needed transcribers, and those needed extra time. She adds that of the Special Needs candidates who registered, 55 did not show up for the final exams.
The percentage of absentee candidates had been declining steadily, but this time, increased by 0.8%. This is accompanied by School dropout at the primary level.
On the controversial matter of unregulated fee increments, Ms. Museveni said the Cabinet will soon come out with a clear position that will determine the Government fees policy for all schools.
The Senior One Selection exercise will be held from 2nd to 3rd February and thereafter they will report to school on 20th February 2023.
