UNOC orders for 8 Million Litres of Fuel ahead of Kenya Elections
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Energy, Pauline Batebe has declared that Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has ordered for 8 million litres of fuel in order to have sufficient stock in the country ahead of the Kenyan elections.
The Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Trade were appearing before the Government Assurance Committee over the high costs of fuel.
Legislators on the Committee tasked officials from Ministry of Energy and Trade to explain why fuel costs are low in South Sudan and DRC which equally import fuel.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Energy, Pauline Batebe attributed high fuel prices in Uganda as compared to other East African Countries to transport costs.
While noting that Kenya and Tanzania are applying subsidies, Batebe noted that Uganda operates a liberalized market where prices are determined by forces of demand and supply.
