UPC’S Walubiri Vows To Throw Akena Out Of Party Offices

RAMSON

A faction of UPC leaders led by the embattled party president, Peter Mukidi Walubiri have vowed to do all it takes to take back their party offices, currently occupied by Jimmy Akena.

Akena who has been party president since 2015 saw his leadership nullified by the court in a ruling issued by the court of appeal on 13th October.

In a new development, Walubiri and his faction say they have already notified Akena to vacate office failure of which will see Akena evicted by force.

UPC has not survived the division that has befallen opposition political parties in Uganda, with one faction led by Peter Mukidi Walubiri and the other led by James Akena who has been party president since 2006.
These divisions have been attributed to the state and the government of President Museveni who Walubiri says has always had intentions of failing the party and the opposition at large.

Walubira and company have been battling Jimmy Akena in courts of law since 2015, challenging the election of Jimmy Akeena as party president in a delegate’s conference held in 2015.

The final verdict was given in a 13th October ruling by a panel of judges of the Supreme Court of Uganda annulling the election of Jimmy Akena as president.

Akena has now been given an ultimatum to vacate the party offices situated at Uganda House. Failure to vacate the offices, the party president says they will take extra measures to have him evicted.
Walubiri says they have notified banks and other stakeholders of any dealing with Jimmy Akeena on behalf of UPC. They want Akena to be held accountable for all actions taken on behalf of the party from when he assumed office on what they term illegal grounds.

The party leaders are also dismayed at how long it takes for systems like the judicially to deliver justice to Ugandans. This has been interpreted by them as an indication of a failed government.

Speaking to the media this week, Jimmy Akena vowed he is the duly elected party president despite a court ruling. How this unfolds and ends, and how it affects the party remains something to look out for.
