UPC Advice On PDM Funds

UPC Advice On PDM Funds

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has asked the Government to collaborate with the extension workers already in the field, both in the public and private sectors, to effectively deliver on the flagship Parish Development Model (PDM) Programme.

Under the PDM, the Government expects to lift out of poverty and improve the livelihoods of 17.5 million Ugandans and 3.5 million households in the targeted community.

The Spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Congress Oyat Sharon who addressed journalists at the party’s head office on Uganda House, Kampala asked the government to partner with other extension workers in the implementation and delivery of the Parish Development Model.

The UPC party spokesperson also urged the government to assess how effective the funds have been in the parishes which have already received PDM cash and also ensure that the funds are not misused by the beneficiaries or those managing it.

On the calls for the Government to come up with a policy to regulate fees and other charges in schools, the UPC publicist urged the Ministry of Education to take action as the institution supervising learning in the country instead of lamenting.

Oyat noted that in the absence of a robust law and in a free market economy, schools can charge any manner of fees parents are willing unless the education ministry invokes some of its powers provided for in the Education Act.

According to Ms. Oyat, the UPC is also concerned about the allegations of homosexuality in schools. She asked religious leaders and parents to guide and ensure that the children know the social and health dangers of the vice and also have the children properly monitored while at school so that they don’t fall victim to devious characters.
