UPC Urges Government To Review The Parish Development Model

UPC Urges Government To Review The Parish Development Model

The opposition Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party has asked the government to train the beneficiaries of the funds under the Parish Development Model.

The UPC also appealed to the Government to sensitise the PDM beneficiaries on the choice of projects to undertake for the best returns.

The call was made by the UPC Spokesperson Sharon Oyat during the party’s weekly media conference at the UPC head office on Uganda House in Kampala.

In her media address, Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party Spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat stressed that the government should appreciate that some people have limited experience and poor mindsets.

They, therefore, need training and mentorship, especially regarding the Paris Devt Model and in developing specific projects to improve their livelihoods.

Oyat blamed the government for the knowledge gap among many members of the public on the Parish Devt Model.

According to Oyat, corruption, limited market, stiff competition and bribery among responsible stakeholders, are some of the main factors which have contributed to the little impact created by some government programmes or even their total failure.

She cited Emyooga, Bonna Baggawale and the Youth Livelihood Programmes. Oyat, therefore, asked the government to have a policy to protect small-scale entrepreneurs.

The Parish Development Model is a flagship government programme to improve household income. It positions the Parish as the epicentre of multi-sectoral community development. It has seven pillars, including production, storage, processing and marketing; infrastructure and economic services; financial inclusion; social services and mindset change.

Meanwhile, Oyat sent good wishes from the UPC to the Muslim fraternity ahead of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan which begins on Thursday 23rd March 2023.
