UPC Wants Action On Karamoja Iron Sheets Saga

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has demanded tough action against whoever will be found to have broken the law in regard to the alleged theft of iron sheets meant for vulnerable people in the Karamoja sub-region.

According to the UPC party spokesperson, Arach Sharon Oyat, the government needs to crack the whip hard against the corrupt to deter others from using public resources for private use.

She made the call while addressing journalists at the party’s head office in Uganda House. Ritah Nandera reports.

The media has been awash with allegations that iron sheets earmarked for vulnerable people in the Karamoja sub-region ended up with some ministers and Members of Parliament.

The Spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Arach Sharon Oyat says the government has the capacity to find out who exactly diverted the iron sheets since they know who was in charge of the distribution of the items. She noted that Karamoja faces a lot of challenges but the solutions appear to be few.

The UPC mouthpiece also spoke out on the launch of the exercise for wealth declaration by public officials which will run from 1st to 31st March 2023. She asked the Inspectorate of Government to strictly implement the Leadership Code Act to stop the illicit acquisition of wealth by government officials.

And today being Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and repentance, UPC calls upon all Christians and non-Christians in Uganda to make use of his fasting period to know more God, fast with a purpose and ensure that their actions are for the good of humanity.
