UPDF Engineering Brigade Renovates Lwampanga HC3

Residents of Lwampanga Sub-county in Nakasongola district can now smile after the UPDF Engineering Brigade renovated their health centre which was destroyed by floods after Lake Kyoga burst its banks a few months ago.

The renovation followed a visit by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to assess the damage by the floods who pledged that the Government would restore the health centre.

However, the residents say they say still face several challenges of clean water, poor roads and lack of electricity.

The UPDF Engineering Brigade began renovating Lwampanga Health Centre III on 23rd March 2022 after President Yoweri Museveni directed that the UPDF undertakes all construction works of government projects.

The Health Centre got new facilities including a maternity ward and doctor’s quarters. Work was completed in exactly twelve months and the renovated facilities are expected to be handed over by the end of April 2023,

Local leaders say that the residents will be relieved because they have had to travel long distances to access health services elsewhere since their health centre was affected by floods.

The leaders thanked the Prime Minister and UPDF Engineering Brigade for expediting the restoration of the health centre. They appealed to the Government to give more of its contracts to UPDF Engineering Brigade because they are efficient.

The residents appealed to the government to tackle their other challenges of lack of clean water, electricity, and a poor road network.

The Project Engineer Col. Yunus Ntegeka said that the poor road network in the area slowed down their work, especially in transporting construction materials.

The Chairman of the UPDF Engineering Brigade Monitoring Committee Maj. Gen Henry Matsiko said that the UPDF is dedicated to working, delivers value for money, and observes quality.

The government has so far spent over 0ne billion shillings in the restoration of Lwampanga Health Centre III. Work is not yet fully complete because the doctor’s house is being expanded following a directive from Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.
