UPDF Launch Tarehe Sita Week In Mbarara District

Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched the 42nd anniversary celebrations for Tarehe Sita or Army Day due to be held on 6th February 2023 in Greater Mbarara.

There will be a series of weeklong activities in Ankole sub-region leading, including a health camp and renovation of key facilities, ahead of the D-Day on 6th February 2023.      

The launch was graced by senior UPDF and government officials including political leaders from Isingiro and Mbarara districts.  

The launch of the Army week activities for Isingiro district was held at the district headquarters grounds while for Mbarara district, it was conducted in Bwizibwera town council which is also the district headquarters.  

The launch was accompanied by a number of activities including tree planting, offering free medical services to the community and the renovation of government facilities.

The State Minister for Internal Affairs General David Muhozi was the chief guest at the Mbarara district launch while the State Minister for Animal Industry, retired Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama, who is also the Isingiro South MP presided over the launch in Isingiro district.

Lt. Col. Rwamirama who participated in the 1981-1986 liberation war, paid tribute to the revolutionaries and the population for their contribution during the years of the protracted struggle. Gen. Muhozi asked people to ensure that the UPDF recruits disciplined people to sustain it as a pro-people and disciplined institution,

The Greater Mbarara region was chosen to host this year’s Tarehe Sita celebrations on 6th Fveraurty 2023 as part of the fulfilment of the FRONASA liberation struggle

Area Leaders asked the government to allow UPDF take over all government construction projects, arguing that in the few projects the has executed, there has been value for money, quality work and  no cases of corruption

Other leaders urged the population to respect the UPDF officers for their sacrifice which has led to the peace enjoyed by all Ugandans

The grand Tarehe Sita celebrations will be held at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara City under the theme: “Recognizing the sacrifice of the founders of the people’s revolution for social economic transformation.”
