UPDF Not About To Leave DRC In Fighting ADF
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) will not withdraw from Eastern DRC until the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and other negative elements are defeated.
That vow was made by Maj. Gen. Dick Pritt Olum during the local celebrations to mark the Army Day or Tarehe Sita in Kasese district.
Major General Olum is the Commander; UPDF Mountain Division based in Kasese District but oversees operations in the entire Rwenzori region including Bundibugyo, Ntoroko, Kasese, Kabarole, Kyenjojo, among other districts.
General Olum is also the Commander of Operation Shujaa, a joint effort between the UPDF and DRC armed forces, FARDC intended to degrade and defeat the ADF and other negative elements in Eastern DRC.
Gen. Olum says the UPDF is working with the local population in the DRC to improve the security situation in the mineral-rich neighbouring country.
In November 2021, the UPDF with the blessing of the Kinshasa Government, launched a joint operation against the ADF. This was after ADF operatives carried out suicide bombings in Kampala that claimed three lives and left scores injured.
General Olum says it is a matter of time before the ADF fighters are eliminated or pressure put on them so much that they will flee or get killed.
Maj Gen. Olum used the opportunity to give the UPDF commitment to the people of Toro and Kasese about their protection by the forces.
