URA Calls On Traders To Cooperate As The Tax Body Sensitizes Them On EFRIS
PRIMA
The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has urged traders to cooperate as they undertake a sensitization campaign to educate them on EFRIS and address recent penalties incurred.
URA Commissioner General, John Musinguzi, also criticized individuals who have been negatively influencing traders, undermining the agency's efforts to rectify challenges within its tax collection system. This statement was made during their meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises (COSASE) at parliament today.
In response to audit queries from the Auditor General’s report for FY23/24, URA officials met with the COSASE at parliament.
Following the President's directive on May 7, 2024, to suspend the compulsory use of the EFRIS machine, URA Commissioner General, John Musinguzi, revealed that they have been addressing this directive over the past month.
However, he noted that due to improper utilization of the system, the agency loses an estimated 4 trillion in VAT due to inadequate monitoring of business transactions.
Musinguzi expressed optimism that the system will function effectively with the cooperation of Ugandans.
The URA CG condemned those who have been undermining their efforts to enhance customer relations, educate, and train traders on EFRIS.
He also called on traders who have outstanding tax penalties to visit their head offices in Nakawa to reach a resolution.
The reduced number of traders is expected to attend their second meeting with the President on June 20, 2024.
