Urgent Call To Action, Let's End Corruption - ACCU
In preparation for the International Anti-Corruption Day, the Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda spearheaded a press conference today addressing rampant corruption within the nation.
From the notorious 'Iron Sheets Saga' to corruption allegations at NSSF and the unsettling revelation of Ghost Health Facilities in Ntungamo District, the spotlight is firmly on the urgent need to combat corruption at every level.
Both the President of Uganda and citizens were urged to join forces in this critical battle against corruption.
The United Nations General Assembly designated 9th December as an International Anti Corruption Day in a bid to recognize corruption as a global threat, in preparation for this particular day, The Anti Corruption Coalition Uganda held a press conference today to inform the general public about the corruption rates in the country.
Christine from the Uganda Debt Network adds that the day comes at a time when the country's corruption rate is increasing losing over 1 trillion ugx annually.
Xavier Ejoyi the Country Director AdionAid International Uganda noted that these organizations help in reminding the President of his mandate in fight corruption especially corrupt officials.
He echoed that civil society organizations fighting corruption provide a platform to citizens in regards to the fight.
The best way according to Christine from Uganda Debt Network is for all citizens to be engaged in ending corruption.
According to the bi-annual report, 3,504 corruption cases were reported from January 2022 to June 2023, and of these, only 1528 were fully investigated. According to Transparency International, Uganda is ranked 142 out of 180 in the global corruption perception index.
